Suburb & Site Brief History

Collingwood - The Suburb

The name for the area known as Collingwood came from Lord Cuthbert Collinwood, an English Vice Admiral (1705-1810).

He had supreme command of the British Fleet after the famous Horatio Nelson was mortally wounded in the Battle of Trafalgar - 1805

The land that would become the Municipality of Collingwood was sold on 13 Feb 1839. There were 29 portions varying in size from 12 to 28 acres.

The most valuable land sold which fronted the river was sold between £5 & £7 7shillings per Acre.
